Alexandra Gelhar was born in Cologne and grew up in a family of musicians.
Therefore music, opera and concerts have always played a big part in her life.

After studying music at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Sabine Thiel (WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln) and with the harp being her main subject, she studied drama, musicology and German literature at the University of Bayreuth with Prof. Sieghart Döhring.

Jobs followed as an Assistant Director at the Bayreuther Festspiele with Wolfgang Wagner, Dieter Dorn, Stephan Suschke and Christoph Schlingensief and also at Zurich opera house with Harry Kupfer.
Furthermore, she has enjoyed playing at various events, as a solo harpist or in arrangements with flutes, violins and vocals.
